Betting on myself was the turning point. It opened doors I never imagined and gave me the chance to build a life that reflects what I value most.
When COVID hit, I was teaching fifth-grade math virtually while simultaneously trying to help my two kids with their virtual coursework. I was pulled in two directions, giving everything I had to my students and my family—and still feeling like it wasn’t enough. It forced me to step back and ask myself: Is this the life I want to keep living?
I spent four years teaching in Snyder, Texas, where we lived for over a decade. I enjoyed working with the kids, but when the pandemic turned my home into a second classroom, everything started to blur together. There was no off switch. I was overwhelmed, stretched thin, and realizing that the career I had once felt called to was pulling me away from the people who mattered most. That’s when I knew something had to change.
In 2020, I got my real estate license and was working part time on top of everything else I was doing. But I wasn’t ready to rely fully on commission. With three kids and so much uncertainty because of the pandemic, I needed stability. When an opportunity at Zillow came up, I jumped at it! I started as a home advisor, and a few months in, I moved into a sales executive role. That job gave me a front-row seat to the industry. I spent my days talking to agents across the country, learning what worked and how Zillow could help them grow their business. The more conversations I had, the more I realized: Why am I not doing this for myself?
Real estate had always interested me. As a kid, I would read news articles about homes. My family invested in rental properties, and my dad built houses and ran his own business. He was always a rock for me. He passed away in 2019, but I often think about him and the impact he has had on me. His supportive, kind spirit and success in business are an inspiration for me.
In early 2024, we moved back to Abilene, the town where I grew up. I knew there was no better place to build my business than right here at home. I leaned on the same Zillow tools I once sold, knowing firsthand how powerful they could be in growing a business. By the end of my first year, I had closed $3.8 million in sales. This year, I set a goal of $6 million and am already on pace to surpass $10 million — proof that with hard work and consistency, I can do this and do it well.
Now that I’m in real estate, I think a lot about how my life has shaped the way I show up for others. I’ve experienced loss and developed a deep empathy for others navigating challenging times. My husband was in the Army, so I understand military life and VA loans. And as a mother and wife, I know how the needs of families change over time. I’ve learned a lot about change, uncertainty, and what people need during life transitions. My dad was someone I could always count on, no matter what. Now I try to be that person for others. More than a career, real estate has become a way to serve others in an impactful way, and that’s the part that matters most to me.
Real estate has given me more control of my time, which lets me keep family a priority. We love to travel together, choosing trips over big gifts because it’s the experiences and memories that last. I also enjoy staying connected locally through the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, the Abilene Association of REALTORS®, and the Leadership Abilene program. I’m grateful to now raise my kids in the same community I grew up in, and to contribute to it in a meaningful way.
With a background in teaching, I break things down step by step, so you know exactly what to expect. I use visual tools, clear explanations, and consistent communication to make sure nothing feels overwhelming. From the first meeting to closing, my goal is for you to feel prepared, supported, and confident in your decisions.
From the very first appointment, I go above and beyond by providing a detailed map of the home-buying process and an informational page that explains who I am and how I work. I take time to truly listen so I understand what you want most, then adjust the search or selling strategy to match your priorities—because no two experiences are the same.
My expertise includes investments, first-time buyers, VA clients, and families with evolving needs, from upsizing to finding a dream home. At every stage—whether it’s explaining contracts, negotiating, or navigating challenges—I make sure you feel informed and supported. For me, a transaction is never the end. My goal is to build lasting relationships and to be the REALTOR® you can trust for life.
Sincerely,

Ashley Hernandez
